Speakers:


Dr Andrea Cabibbe is a biomedical scientist with postgraduate training in medical biotechnology and global health. He is a senior researcher at the Emerging Bacterial Pathogens Unit of the San Raffaele Scientific Institute and co-Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Tuberculosis Laboratory Strengthening.


His work focuses on pathogen diagnostics and the implementation of emerging technologies, including next-generation sequencing. With over 10 years of experience, he contributes to global TB control by translating scientific evidence into diagnostic policies, antimicrobial resistance surveillance strategies, and programmatic impact. He is member of the Global Laboratory Initiative core group of the Stop TB Partnership.


Dr Gulmira Kalmambetova is the Deputy Head of the National TB Program in Kyrgyzstan and leads the Department of Strategic Development and International Cooperation at the National Center of Phthisiology. Previously, she headed the National Reference Laboratory, where she advanced TB diagnostics by introducing NGS and later implemented Targeted Sequencing in the routine diagnostic of TB. Under her leadership, the NRL achieved ISO 15189 accreditation in 2022. Her earlier experience includes work with the ICRC TB in Prison Program and as a laboratory specialist for the USAID Quality Health Care Project. In recognition of her contribution to the COVID-19 response, she was awarded the title of Honored Doctor of the Kyrgyz Republic in 2021.


In her current role, she promotes international collaboration and actively seeks funding and partners to support TB research and studies

 

Chair:

Dr Francesca Saluzzo is a physician specialized in Microbiology and Virology with an MSc in International Health. Currently she is working at Vita Salute San Raffaele University in Milan, Italy. Her research focuses on the validation and implementation of new diagnostic tools and frameworks for drug resistant tuberculosis and respiratory infectious diseases opting for a participatory and people centred approach. Within TBnet she is responsible for Microbiology.
