Speakers:
Dr Dumitru Chesov is an Associate Professor in the Department of Respiratory Medicine and Allergology at Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Chișinău, Republic of Moldova, and a postdoctoral researcher in the Division of Clinical Infectious Diseases at the Research Center Borstel, Leibniz Lung Center, Germany. He is a certified specialist and consultant in respiratory medicine, with extensive clinical and academic experience. His research focuses on drug-resistant tuberculosis, integrating clinical research, microbiological diagnostics, and antimicrobial-resistance analysis. His selected publications examine the emergence of resistance to bedaquiline and other essential anti-tuberculosis drugs, treatment outcomes in extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis, and nosocomial transmission in the Republic of Moldova. In this webinar, Dumitro will talk about acquired resistance, treatment failure, and prevention options from a perspective of a high burden country.
Dr Lindsay Sonnenkalb is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Research Center Borstel, Leibniz Lung Center, in Borstel, Germany. She leads projects in the European Regimen Accelerator for Tuberculosis (ERA4TB) and UNITE4TB consortia; and serves as Junior Principal Investigator at the Leibniz ScienceCampus Antimicrobial Resistance Plasticity. Her research utilizes experimental evolution, next-generation sequencing, and in vitro assays to understand how Mycobacterium tuberculosis adapts to antibiotic stress. In her presentation she will give insight into our current understanding of Bedaquiline resistance and future prospectives of diarylquinolines.
Chair:
Dr Francesca Saluzzo is a physician specialized in Microbiology and Virology with an MSc in International Health. Currently she is working at Vita Salute San Raffaele University in Milan, Italy. Her research focuses on the validation and implementation of new diagnostic tools and frameworks for drug resistant tuberculosis and respiratory infectious diseases opting for a participatory and people centred approach. Within TBnet she is responsible for Microbiology.
