The First TBnet/WHO Europe Conference on Antimicrobial Stewardship in TB
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) remains one of the leading global health threats, with tuberculosis (TB) playing a major role in this challenge. In 2024, an estimated 390,000 people developed multidrug- or rifampicin-resistant TB (MDR/RR-TB). In response, the World Health Organization has identified rifampicin-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis as a priority pathogen requiring urgent action.
Although antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) is essential to tackling AMR, TB-specific stewardship strategies are still underdeveloped. To address this, an international Delphi panel recently established consensus-based clinical standards for AMS in TB care.
Building on this initiative, the first Antimicrobial Stewardship in Tuberculosis Conference will take place in Chisinau, Moldova, on June 8–9, 2026.
At a conference organised by TBnet in collaboration with the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe, experts from across the WHO European Region will review findings from a regional survey on implementation of these standards and discuss practical strategies to strengthen AMS in TB programmes and clinical practice.
While in-person spaces are now fully booked, there is still the possibility to join this event online. You can register at https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/hrVrZe7KRcujo4q6OgiiOg.
