Dear TBnet members!

Please find below a link to our online survey „SURVERY TB“. The goal of this survey of healthcare professionals is to evaluate the role of adjunctive surgical treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis. It only takes 10 minutes to complete the questionnaire. We would be very grateful for your participation. Please feel free to share the link among your colleagues.

„SURVERY TB“ - An Europe-wide Survey to evaluate the Role of Adjunctive Surgery in the Treatment of Pulmonary Tuberculosis

Up to this day, there are no large, prospective, multicenter studies about the advantages and disadvantages of implementing thoracic surgery as a therapeutic option in the treatment process of pulmonary TB. We have limited data about the success rates of a combined medical and surgical approach in contrast to a medical approach that only relies on surgery in case of emergencies or treatment failure. The majority of the existing data and experience pertains to patients with MDR or XDR TB. Surgical treatment is most commonly considered for one of the following three reasons: diagnostic approach (e.g. to differentiate between TB and lung cancer), MDR/XDR-TB and complications (e.g. hemoptysis, fistula or empyema). The expansion of the above-mentioned indications to include focal TB, Tuberculoma, cavernous TB and chronic empyema is a controversial topic. We wish to provide more data to inform clinical decision making, the first step is this Europe-wide survey to paint a clearer picture of the standard of care throughout Europe.
