Call for applications for TBnet Steering Committee Positions - 2025 Elections
TBnet – our self-organized research and education network of TB enthusiasts soon celebrates its 20th birthday. With close to 100 peer – reviewed publications and many educational events it remains an important partner in TB related science, education and advocacy in Europe.
Now we are seeking a next generation of young leaders in the field, who should help TBnet florish further.We are searching for Steering Committee members, responsible for TB Diagnostics and two Early Career members of the Steering Committee.
Every TBnet member working in the WHO European Region, who is interested and ready to dedicate time in driving TBnet activities is warmly invited to apply. For the 2 early career posts, you should be < 40 years of age.
Being a TBnet SC member is an exciting opportunity to:
Contribute to the advancement of TB research and clinical practice.
Use and develop leadership skills.
Support progress in science and being a member of an exciting community.
The role is voluntary and not remunerated; however, travel costs to relevant meetings (e.g., the TBnet Annual Meeting) will be reimbursed for SC members.
The call for applications to the positions will be open until 1 October 2025. Candidates are asked to send their CV and a one page motivation letter describing their aims for the given position (max. 300 words) to Anne Oleischeck, TBnet Admin, by email: admin@tbnet.eu.
Important: One person can apply only to one position of the TBnet SC. The list of the SC positions and connected duties can be found below (scroll down).
What happens after your application?
After 1 October 2025, the list of candidates will be finalized and sent to all TBnet members.
Online voting will be open from 15th October to 1st November 2025, allowing all members to cast their votes for the candidates.
The result of the election will be announced by November 10th and the respective candidates with the majority votes should aim at presenting themselves at the General Assembly on November 18th.
This year we are inviting applications for the following positions:
1. Steering Committee Member responsible for TB Diagnostics
Duties:
Serve as the point of contact for TBnet members on TB diagnostics and promote relevant TBnet research.
Keep track of major scientific advances in the field.
Review project proposals in TB diagnostics and related fields.
Attend and actively contribute to regular TBnet SC meetings.
Represent TBnet at relevant events, including the TBnet Annual Meeting.
Disseminate information on TBnet activities across relevant consortia and professional societies.
Support TBnet educational activities (e.g., TBnet Academy) when needed.
2. Early Career Scientist – TBnet
Duties:
Represent the voice and interests of early career TB researchers within TBnet.
Facilitate networking opportunities for early career members (e.g., through workshops, online forums, or mentoring activities).
Support the organization of TBnet educational initiatives (e.g., TBnet Academy, training courses, and webinars).
Contribute to the dissemination of TBnet opportunities, grants, and events relevant to early career researchers.
Engage with other SC members to integrate early career perspectives into TBnet’s strategic priorities.
3. Early Career Scientist – NTMnet
Duties:
Represent early career scientists working in the field of NTM (nontuberculous mycobacteria) within NTMnet and TBnet.
Support the coordination of NTM-focused activities, meetings, and workshops for early career members.
Assist in promoting research opportunities, collaborations, and training related to NTM.
Participate in SC meetings to ensure early career perspectives are included in NTMnet activities.
Foster links between early career NTM researchers and the broader TBnet/NTMnet community.
Call for Research Proposals from TBnet Academy Alumni for TBnet Annual Meeting in Copenhagen
We are pleased to invite alumni of the TBnet Academy to contribute to the upcoming TBnet Annual Meeting, scheduled for 18 November 2025 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Submit your brief research idea or proposal for a chance to be featured in the dedicated session, “Research for the Future”, at the TBnet Annual Meeting 2025.
Submissions should be aligned with TBnet’s scientific priorities and fall within one of the following five thematic areas:
Epidemiology
Diagnostics / Microbiology
Pediatrics
Nontuberculous Mycobacteria (NTM)
Treatment
Each topic will be the focus of a discussion group co-moderated by a senior TBnet member and an early-career investigator. One proposal per topic will be selected and presented as the foundation for in-depth group discussion during the meeting.
Successful applicants will receive:
Reimbursement for travel expenses (up to €150)
Accommodation for one night in Copenhagen (up to €100)
Application Requirements: Applicants are requested to submit the following documents:
A brief proposal (maximum 300 words), including background, research question, proposed methodology, and potential for collaboration within TBnet
A one-page motivation letter
A curriculum vitae (maximum 2 pages)
