Call to members: TBnet General Assembly, Milan, Italy, September 8, 2023

Dear Members,


TBnet General Assembly in Milan is important because of the Steering Committee (SC) election. Most of the SC positions are open for election apart from the positions of the Chair and past-Chair. This message includes the official call for applications to SC positions (scroll down to find it).

Additionally, there will be a vote to introduce changes to TBnet constitution allowing online voting in future.

Call for applications to TBnet SC positions


Every TBnet member, working in the WHO European Region, who is interested and ready to invest time to drive the TBnet work is welcome to apply. Being a TBnet SC member is an exciting opportunity to contribute to your field of the TB research, to use your leadership skills for improvement of clinical practice, the progress of science and the network. The service at the TBnet SC is not paid, however, travel costs to the relevant meetings e. g. TBnet Annual Meeting are reimbursed for the SC members. The call for applications to the position will be open until July 27, 2023.

Candidates are asked to send their CV and a motivation letter describing your aims at the given position (300 words max) to Liga Rusmane, the TBnet Admin by email: liga.r@tbnet.eu.

One person can apply only to one position of the TBnet SC. The list of the SC positions and connected duties can be found below (scroll down).

 

What happens after your application?


After July 27, TBnet will start an opinion poll through the TBnet online system – this will be done to allow all members of the network to express their opinion as for the candidates who applied. The opinion poll will be closed in the end of July and election agenda and the list of candidates will be sent to all members of TBnet.

During the General Assembly, the list of the candidates and the results of the online poll will be presented to the General Assembly and the SC members will be elected by the General Assembly - one by one – by lifting hands.

 

The list of the TBnet SC positions you can apply to and connected duties


TBnet vice-chair

Duties:

  • Support the Chair in admin and research questions.

  • Regularly attend and contribute to admin and SC meetings once a month.

  • Coordinate the SC meetings and Annual TB meeting together with the Chair.

  • Promote new TBnet research ideas and proposals, coordinate reviews of the new proposals and follow up the TBnet studies.

  • Being a contact point together with the Chair for all questions regarding TBnet activity.

  • Secure funding when possible.

  • Be proactive and engage the SC members and all members of the network in the TBnet activities.

 

TBnet treasurer

Duties:

  • Lead the accounting work in connection to TBnet expenditures, incomes and the overall budget.

  • Prepare the financial report yearly.

  • Keep track of German tax law and the law of associations.

  • Attend and contribute to regular TBnet SC meetings.

 

Chair for NTM-NET – non-tuberculous mycobacteria network*

Duties:

  • Coordinate the development of the network for NTM.

  • Be the point of contact for colleagues interested in non-tuberculous mycobacteria.

  • Promote and support non-tuberculous mycobacteria research.

  • Link with other scientific societies interested in non-tuberculous mycobacteria.

  • Secure funding when possible.

  • Support TBnet educational activities e.g. TBnet Academy when needed.

*Everyone who applies to this position will become part of the leading group for restructuring of the NTM-NET. The candidate who gets most of the votes in the election will be the elected chair of the NTM-NET.

 

Steering committee member responsible for TB Diagnostics

Duties:

  • Be the point of contact for TBnet members on TB diagnostics & promote relevant TBnet research.

  • Keep track of major scientific advances in the field.

  • Review project proposals in TB diagnostics and related fields.

  • Attend and contribute to regular TBnet SC meetings.

  • Present TBnet activities at relevant events, including TBnet Annual Meeting.

  • Disseminate information on TBnet activities across relevant consortia and professional societies.

  • Support TBnet educational activities e.g. TBnet Academy when needed.

 

Steering committee member responsible for Translational Research

Duties:

  • Be the point of contact for members on all translational aspects of TBnet projects.

  • Review for TBnet study proposals with focus on translational research.

  • Promote and support translational research within the TBnet.

  • Link and translation of TBnet studies to professional societies and guidelines.

  • Support TBnet educational activities e.g. TBnet Academy when needed.

  • Attend and contribute to regular TBnet SC meetings.

 

Steering committee member responsible for Clinical Trials

Duties:

  • Be the point of contact for members on Clinical Trials.

  • Reviewer for TBnet clinical research study proposals.

  • Promote and support clinical research within the TBnet.

  • Link with other scientific societies interested in clinical research in TB in Europe and beyond and with TB clinical research networks.

  • Assess and promote equitable access to TB drugs and interventions in Europe, in particular those that have been developed through clinical trials performed in Europe.

  • Support TBnet educational activities e.g. TBnet Academy when needed.

 

Steering committee member responsible for Advocacy

Duties:

  • Be the point of contact for TBnet members on advocacy issues & promote relevant TBnet research.

  • Keep track of topics raised in TB survivor and advocacy networks and key events.

  • Design and promote World TB Day activities.

  • Review project proposals relevant to your expertise.

  • Attend and contribute to monthly TBnet SC meetings.

  • Support TBnet educational activities e.g. TBnet Academy when needed.

 

Steering committee member responsible for Clinical TB

Duties:

  • Be the point of contact for TBnet members on clinical TB & promote relevant TBnet research.

  • Keep track of major scientific advances in the field and inform the SC.

  • Review project proposals on related fields.

  • Attend and contribute to monthly SC meetings.

  • Support TBnet educational activities e.g. TBnet Academy when needed.

 

Steering committee member responsible for Epidemiology

Duties:

  • Be the point of contact for TBnet members on Epidemiology & promote relevant TBnet research.

  • Review of project proposals.

  • Support studies and funding proposals planned or ongoing within TBnet methodologically.

  • Facilitate data access, integration and data use across TBnet studies.

  • Link and translation of TBnet studies and findings to relevant networks and professional societies and to guidelines.

  • Attend and contribute to monthly SC meetings.

  • Support TBnet educational activities e.g. TBnet Academy when needed.

 

Steering committee member responsible for Education

Duties:

  • Be the point of contact for TBnet members on Education issues & promote relevant TBnet research.

  • Organize TBnet Academies.

  • Co-organize the EACCTB.

  • Attend and contribute to monthly SC meetings.

  • Link TBnet studies and findings to relevant networks and professional societies and provide their translation to guidelines.

 

Steering committee member responsible for Microbiology

Duties:

  • Be the point of contact for TBnet members on Microbiology & promote relevant TBnet research.

  • Keep track of major scientific advances in the field and inform the SC.

  • Review project proposals in TB diagnostics and related fields.

  • Attend and contribute to monthly SC meetings.

  • Present TBnet activities at relevant events, including TBnet Annual Meeting.

  • Disseminate information on TBnet activities across relevant consortia and professional societies.

  • Support TBnet educational activities e.g. TBnet Academy when needed.
