2. New TBnet Admin from 2022


Maja Reimann, one of TBnet Admins steps down and her role will be taken over by Liga Rusmane.

We use the opportunity to thank Maja Reimann for her engagement and great contribution to the TBnet work during recent years. Among highlights of her work is supporting the TBnet meeting in Madrid, 2019 and the TBnet Academy in Romania, 2019. Thank you Maja, we wish you best success in research and other activities!

Ms Liga Rusmane, a new TBnet Admin, holds Bachelor degree of Social Sciences in Communication and Media Studies. She is the Training Coordinator at the WHO Collaborating Centre for Research and Training in Management of Multidrug-Resistant Tuberculosis of Latvia (WHO CC), Centre of

Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases, Riga East University Hospital. There, Liga Rusmane provides administrative and coordination support to the planning and implementation of the project and training activities. Additionally, Liga Rusmane is active at the “Latvian Society against Tuberculosis” NGO. There, she contributes to the Society`s annual work plan development/ implementation and provides administrative assistance to the routine work.

3. Patricia Comella del Bario has defended her thesis on the 20th of December 2021


We would like to greet Patricia Comella del Bario who has recently defended her PhD thesis at Research Institute Germans Trias I Pujol, Barcelona. Patricia is a TBnet member and has participated in the TBnet Academy 2018. The title of the thesis is “New approaches for the future of tuberculosis diagnosis”. A part of this thesis has been done using the material collected by Dr Comella del Bario in Haiti where tuberculosis is highly endemic. To be able to work there, Patricia Comella del Bario has learned Creole language and a summary of her thesis is written in several languages including Creole.



4. Keeping in touch with the Congress of the National Association of Phthisiologists, Russian Federation


In recent years, TBnet has had a good contact with the St. Petersburg Research Institute of Phthisiopulmonology and the Congress of the National Association of Phthisiologists (NAPh) of Russia.Within this cooperation, the TBnet Academy and the Post Graduate Course on Clinical TB was organized in St. Petersburg, 2018. Since then, TBnet members regulary present their work at the NAPh Congress.This year, within the framework of the the NAPh Congress Prof. Martina Sester, Saarland University, Germany /TBnet SC member has presented a talk at the Scientific and Educational Symposium, November 26. The title of the talk was “Humoral and cellular immunity after COVID-19 vaccination in immunocompetent individuals and transplant recipients.” . Prof Sester has recently published a study entitled “Immunogenicity and reactogenicity of heterologous ChAdOx1 nCoV-19/mRNA vaccination.” Nat Med. 2021 Sep;27(9):1530-1535. doi: 10.1038/s41591-021-01464-w. We are glad that the results could be shared with our colleagues in Russia.
